701 Palafox Residences

The “701” residential condominium occupies a parcel on the historic South Palafox pier district of downtown Pensacola. Located south of the Main Street artery of downtown, the 5-story replaced a single-story concrete block building and is on a nationally recognized historic street, South Palafox, and is one of the more recent additions to the multi-decade renaissance occurring in Pensacola’s downtown core.

SMP Architecture strived to design a state-of-the-art multi-residential building that respects the historic context and streetscape bordered with load bearing brick and stucco covered buildings. The incorporation of street facing balconies supported by ornamental cast iron columns with metal railings is a deliberate recognition of the French vernacular that is prevalent in north Gulf Coast cities such as New Orleans and Mobile.
